Romanos is an agronomist and holds two Master's degrees, one in Agricultural Engineering and one in Pharmacognosy & Chemistry of Natural Products. He has over five years of experience in analytical and biotechnology laboratories, as well as in R&D departments at universities, research institutes, and in the pharmaceutical industry.
His research focuses on psychoactive natural products, with an emphasis on indole alkaloids and cannabinoids. His work combines phytochemistry, biotechnology, and ethnobotany, with the aim of bridging ancient psychopharmacology with modern scientific knowledge.
He has presented his research at international scientific conferences and recently presented his work on kykeon, the sacred drink of the Eleusinian Mysteries, in a talk at the Psychedelic Science Conference entitled "From Ancient Psychedelics to Modern Psychopharmacognosy;Uniting Hellenic Rituals with Advances in Natural Products Chemistry."
He is currently conducting his research as part of his doctoral thesis at the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Athens, entitled "Development of methods for the analysis of indole alkaloids with emphasis on substituted tryptamines and ergoline derivatives of natural origin and evaluation of their pharmacological action and toxicity" studying Greek psilocybin mushrooms, the chemistry of cyclamen, and psychedelic mushrooms.
Romanos aspires to bring Greece back to the forefront of global scientific research on entheogens. Through the lens of natural product chemistry, he is working to ensure that the Greek scientific community leads the research that connects the historical past with contemporary therapeutic prospects.
